What is Chronic Kidney Disease?​

  • ​Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a condition in which the kidneys are damaged and cannot filter blood properly. This condition develops slowly over time and can lead to permanent kidney damage.

There is no cure for CKD, but the treatment focuses on slowing down the progression of the disease and managing the symptoms. Treatment options include:

  • Lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet, regular exercise, and quitting smoking

  • Medications to control high blood pressure and diabetes

  • Medications to manage symptoms such as anemia, bone disease, and high cholesterol

  • Dialysis or kidney transplant in severe cases
